Why catfish? A different protein for your dog
Chicken and beef are familiar ingredients in dog treats. Catfish offers a different recipe to explore, with a distinctive texture and flavour. This guide explains what catfish treats are, what a single-protein recipe means and what to check before choosing a snack for your dog.
What is catfish?
Catfish is a freshwater fish. In our ECO WOOF range, the story begins with catfish from ECO NRG aquaculture in Romania, where fish farming and processing are connected. The farm uses a recirculating aquaculture system, or RAS, in which water is treated and reused.
Knowing where an ingredient comes from helps you make an informed choice. Check the origin and composition of the specific product rather than assuming that all fish treats use the same ingredients or production methods.
An alternative to chicken or beef
If you are looking for a different animal-protein source, catfish is one option. A single-animal-protein recipe can make it easier to identify which animal ingredient a treat contains. It does not mean that every dog will tolerate it or that every fish treat has the same composition.
For dogs with known allergies, suspected food sensitivities or a prescribed diet, discuss new treats with your veterinarian. A snack should not be used on its own to diagnose an allergy or replace a veterinary feeding plan.
What makes catfish Chips and Crispy Bars different?
Chips are small, crunchy pieces, while Crispy Bars offer a bar format. ECO WOOF includes a pure catfish recipe, a recipe with brewer’s yeast and a recipe with pumpkin seeds. The fish content and other ingredients vary by recipe, so check the product details and packaging.
The pure range is presented with 100% catfish; the brewer’s yeast range with 97% catfish; and the pumpkin seed range with 95% catfish. PETEFCO is a separate range with different fish recipes, including salmon and catfish. Claims about one recipe should not be applied to every product in the shop.
Read the ingredients, not just the front of the pack
A clear ingredient list helps you compare treats and avoid ingredients your dog needs to exclude. Look at the complete composition, analytical constituents, feeding guidance and storage instructions.
Terms such as single-protein, grain-free and gluten-free describe particular aspects of a recipe. They are not a guarantee that a treat is suitable for every dog. Choose according to your dog’s individual needs and the information for the exact product.
Coat, skin, digestion and chewing
A treat is part of your dog’s overall diet. Its suitability depends on the complete recipe, the amount fed and the individual dog. Nutritional information for the selected product is more useful than general promises about fish.
Crunchy treats provide a different texture at reward time, but they do not replace dental care or veterinary treatment. If your dog has chewing difficulties, digestive problems or skin symptoms, ask your veterinarian which treats are appropriate.
How to offer catfish treats
Our treats are complementary feed for adult dogs, not a complete daily diet. Follow the feeding instructions on the packaging and account for treats alongside your dog’s regular meals. Introduce a new recipe in small amounts.
Choose a suitable piece size for your dog, offer treats under supervision and always provide fresh drinking water. Store the pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and close it after opening.
Why fish is central to our shop
Our shop brings together two distinct brands: PETEFCO, with varied fish recipes, and ECO WOOF, with catfish-based Chips and Crispy Bars. The aim is to make the choice clear through visible ingredients, product information and the story behind the production.
A small pack lets you discover a recipe. A mixed pack offers variety, while a larger pack can be useful once you have found a favourite.
